A Many Splendored Thing
Hosta A Many Splendored Thing
$13.95 each

Elslager (1999) [Large]

Hosta - A Many Splendored Thing

Large dark green leaves have a very wide greenish yellow edge. Nearly round corrugated leaves are somewhat cupped with exceptional thickness to the leaves. Very good slug resistance. 24" tall clumps are topped with pale lavender flowers in midsummer.

Jerry's Comments: "I really like the size of the leaves on this variety. Very good substance which withstands heavy rains and wind. A somewhat slower grower usually makes a nice clump in 3 to 4 years. Prefers deep shade to filtered morning sun."

Walden West (1989) [Large]

Hosta - Abiqua Drinking Gourd

The most distinct cup-shaped leaves ever seen on a hosta! Thick blue leaves display beautiful puckered (bumpy) texture. Topped with white flowers in late June. An excellent grower and slug resistant!

Jerry's Comments: "I love this hosta! Good clean blue color with the deep cups which glisten with water after a soft rainfall. Similiar to Love Pat but I prefer Abiqua Drinking Gourd. Can tolerate some filtered sun. Put this variety on top of your "Must Have List" if you are brand new to hostas!"

Allegan Fog
Hosta Allegan Fog
$13.95 each

Herrema/Ruh (2000) [Small]

Hosta - Allegan Fog

Unusual variegation displays white centers speckled with green surrounded by shiny dark green margins. Lavender flowers. Definately one of our favorites! Our Allegan Fog hosta plants look FANTASTIC in the greenhouse right now.

Jerry's Comments: "The town of Allegan (Michigan) was just down the road from where I grew up (Hudsonville). I think this is one of the best speckled/mottled hostas available. A really nice growth rate especially for a white-center hosta. Plant in deep shade to get the full effect of the misty green specks."

Benedict/Hatfield (NR) [Medium]

Hosta - Alligator Shoes

Frosty blue-green leaves with crinkly texture. Somewhat twisted leaves have a narrow creamy white edge. Aptly named for its rough texture!

Jerry's Comments: "I can not resist touching this hosta every time I pass by it in the greenhouse. The leaves are just so thick and sturdy. This hosta should be on a Top 100 list somewhere. Plant in shady areas to achieve moderate growth rate."
